Bedtime Prayer

Now, I lay me down to rest
I thank the Lord; my life is blessed
I have my family and my home
And freedom, should I choose to roam.

My days are filled with skies of blue
My nights are filled with sweet dreams, too
I’ve no reason to beg or plead
I have been given all I need.

Beneath the subtle moonlit glow
I thank the Lord, so He will know
How grateful I am for my life
In times of glory and of strife.

The times of glory give me hope
The times of strife teach me to cope
Thus, I am much stronger in turn
Yet grounded, still, with much to learn.

Now, I lay me down to rest
I thank the Lord; I’ve passed the test
Of yet another day on earth
Grateful for its abundant worth.

This day has been a special dream
From morning ‘til the last moonbeam
Yet, should the coming dawn bring sorrow
I’ll rise, thankful I’ve reached tomorrow.

10 Top 10

One of the things that I miss back in the Philippines is my morning drive to work listening to Chico and Del’s The Morning Rush top 10. I know I can still listen to them via webcast even here in Canada. Problem is, my computer at work doesn’t have speakers. And besides, I would only get to catch the first hour of the program (6am in the Philippines is 4pm Winnipeg time) since we get off at 5pm. So, I have resigned myself (NO, not from work) to just reading their Top 10 on Chico Garcia’s blog site, but it is so not the same as hearing Chico and Del delivering them.

Anyway, the real purpose of this entry is not to tell you about TMR top 10 and advertise Chico’s Blog. I came across some other Top 10s I just wanted to share with you. So here is a list of TEN sites with very interesting Top 10s. (Click on each link to go to the individual sites)

Here are 2 top tens about extraordinary twins and births. Such wonders the way the human body works!

10 Extraordinary Tales of Twins
10 Curious Births

I like looking at unique architecture, whether they be houses or buildings. So here are interesting hotels I would love to visit someday, plus something I would probably want for my precious dog should I win the lotto:

10 of the World’s most Insanely Luxurious Hotels
10 Crazy Hotels
10 Extreme Dog Houses

To be in advertising, you should be a stickler when in comes to detail. You have to have that eye for impeccability. In this next top 10, it is bad enough that the, supposedly perfect, models have been photoshopped into further perfection, the least they could have done is hide the evidence! So funny!

Another set of Advertising top tens. Some really creative outdoor ads I wish I could have thought of:

10 Mos Creative Cross-Walks
10 Coolest Ads on Airplanes

Walt Disney said that “All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.” Here’s a list of 10 interesting facts about dreams which Walt Disney wouldn’t have dreamed of:

10 Amazing Facts About Dreams

This tenth top 10 I just included here coz the Philippines made it to the list. Makes me proud!

So that is 10 top 10s. But before you leave, you might want to look at this bonus 10 (even animals would want to get in to the action). Enjoy!

New babies…

I’m starting to get obsessed with my new babies.
When I am in the office, all I do is think of them wondering if they are getting enough sun, or if they are cold.
And when we get home, they are the first ones I check up on, looking to see if they’ve got new tricks to show me.

Well, they surely make me so proud… They are turning a new leaf, literally!

Beautiful Hope’s leaf opening up…

Faith’s spidery leaves growing so fast i can’t keep up!

P.S.
Percy is still not showing any changes, maybe she’s starting to get jealous. Unless she show’s me life, she’s not going to get any attention from me… Just kidding.

Thank you God…

Dear God,

My life has been a roller coaster. Lots of dips and bumps, but just as much inclines. I try to keep up, go with the flow, and live it as placidly as i can, trying not to make the turns affect me in any way. I think i have succeeded in doing so…

In my moments of total desolation, i never questioned the pain. It may have brought me to my hands and knees, seemingly defeated, but still dragged at my feet to get through the day. Or it may have induced me to tears, crying myself to sleep, but still able to pick myself up every morning to face my adversity again.

Nothing can be severe enough for me to give up. Everything has its reason, and during those moments of despondency, i know the trials will end and i will emerge triumphant over them.

And i have, most of the time.

Despite the hardships, i thank you, for i see the strength in me to face and learn from them…

Despite the tribulation, i thank you, for i see the blessings afterward magnified a thousand fold…

Despite the struggle, i thank you, for i see the rewards to be more gratifying than getting them easy…

Despite the problems, i thank you, for i see the successes to be sweeter being hard earned as they are…

Despite the misfortunes, i thank you, for i see beauty in every ray of sunshine that breaks through the clouds…

And today more than any day, I thank you, for there is nothing more i can ever ask for.
I have everything i need, the people i love and those who love me.

My glass is half filled.

This is an old blog I posted on my birthday 2 years ago in one of my other blog sites. Just wanted to re-post it as a reminder to myself to thank God for everything that comes my way.

Proof of Life

Ever since we moved into our present apartment and got the new couch, I’ve been going crazy looking for ways to get rid of the static. I kept blaming the microfiber fabric of the couch, so I sprayed it with Static Guard, sprayed it with diluted fabric conditioner, placed safety pins all around it (hidden of course) and even rubbed Bounce anti static-cling sheets, but apparently it’s in the air. The air is way too dry, worse during winter, building up the static electricity in the room. So I asked around, surfed the net, searching for answers how to reduce the static in the apartment. Humidifiers are out of the question coz they are too expensive. My boss suggested having plants in the house, they help raise the humidity in the rooms.

So when we went to the superstore, I got 3 different, low maintenance house plants. But having bought them in a grocery/pharmacy/home furnishings store as opposed to an actual garden store, they didn’t wrap the plants properly. And being first time plant parents in a cold country, we didn’t know that even a very short car ride from the store to the apartment with a temperature of -19 degrees outside would freeze my plants. I was heartbroken when we got home and saw the leaves looking pale and cold.

After a couple more days the leaves were already crunchy and dead. They looked so sad…  Gayl was telling me to throw them away and she will just buy new ones, but I didn’t want to give up on them just yet seeing that the stems were still green. So I continued talking to them and watering them, cleaning them, removing the dead leaves and stems, and sharing our bedroom with them where the sun shone through our window.

Finally my hard work and determination paid off. New shoots and new leaves are starting to come out. Being the proud mama that I am, I almost cried!

And as corny as it may sound, that simple proof of life gave me so much hope about my own. That no matter how glum, cold and hopeless everything may seem, things are going to get better…

Meet my new babies, Hope (the Devil’s Ivy),  Faith (the Spider Plant) and Persy-verance (the Parlor Palm)… They may not be much to look at now, but stay tuned for further updates on how they do the next couple of weeks.
