Tula

Hindi maintindihan kung bakit
Pakiramdam ko’y mundo ay nagsikip
At tila lahat ng sasakyan
Ay iisa ang patutunguhan

Sa lapad at haba naman ng kalsada
Nitong tinatahak kong Edsa
Di ma wari kung bakit
Para akong naiipit

Bakit ba ganito ang pagsulong
Ang andar ko’y usad pagong
May naganap bang banggaan?
O tindi lang ng dami ng sasakyan?

Pilit na nilalabanan ang antok,
Pati matinding sakit ng batok.
Samahan mo pa ng hapo ng katawan
At kumakalam na tiyan.

Para oras ay palipasin,
Pati inip ay pawiin,
Kesa sarili ay inisin
Sa haba pa ng babyahihin
Bakit di ko subukin
Na sa tula’y isalin
Ang hilakbo ng damdamin
Sa sariling wika natin

Wrote this poem back in the Philippines stuck in traffic. Wasn’t supposed to post it yet, but instead of clicking ‘save draft’ I clicked on “publish”.

    1. Hi Cheese Chomp Dad! I don’t know if we do. I’m in Canada now and it would be great if we could do a all Filipino poetry group here in WordPress. that would be so cool specially for us Filipinos all over the globe.

  1. galing, clap clap clap… naku, masarap gumawa ng tula sa haba ng traffic sa edsa, hehe. ang aking “the wheel of fortune”, sa aking pagkaka-alala ay nai-satula habang binabagtas ang kalsada edsa hahaha. at maraming pang iba.

      1. Well, galing akong makati and was driving back to Ortigas during rush hour, so yeah, grabe talaga ang traffic noong araw na yun 😛

  2. Could never write a Tagalog poem. I don’t know too many words to make sense. Hahaha. 😀

I like this because it gives that feeling of helplessness when you’re stuck somewhere. In traffic, or something else.

  3. Going to bed hungry was never easy, especially when you have bodily pains.
Worsened by the knowledge that there’s food but you can’t eat any because “the doctor said so.”

    1. Oh really? “Tula” (accent on the ‘a’) in Filipino means Poem. I wrote that poem when I was still in the philippines stuck in traffic 🙂
